Gas Storage Vessels

Road Tankers

CEM Fabricated Products is Australia's major supplier of liquefied gas road tankers in all forms including rigid mounted units, tri-axle semi-trailer units, combination B-Double units and road train application units. The business specialises in tankers for the LPG, Autogas and Ammonia (NH3) product range and is also a major supplier of tankers for CO2, LNG, vinyl chloride, propylene oxide, chlorine, butadiene and other pressurised gas or chemical applications.

Fabricated Products also assists clients in establishing and maintaining a 'Road Tanker Asset Management Programme'. Typical services include,

  1. Maintenance and servicing of valves, pumps, hose reels and drive-away protection systems on tankers.
  2. Mandatory periodic inspections (DLI's) and visual inspections of road tanker barrels as required by code.
  3. Hose inspections and hose re-testing and replacement programs

  4. Road tanker pressure vessel repairs and modifications.
  5. Suspension replacements.
  6. Stretching of tankers (Increasing the length and capacity of tankers to suit new or current road weight limitations)

The business services all types of tankers including Cryogenic, L.P. Gas, Autogas and, Ammonia type units. Virtually any tanker that is used to transport a product under pressure can be maintained, repaired or modified by CEM.

Gas Storage Vessels & Gas Terminal Projects

The Fabricated Products Division is a specialist supplier to this industry. The fabrication plant has the capacity to produce the full range of gas storage vessels from small gas cylinders up to and including pressure vessels capable of storing hundreds of tonnes of product in above or underground applications. Our experience in the gas storage industry is extensive and is the result of involvement with projects requiring the manufacture of storage vessels for over 30 years. This experience includes involvement in the construction of most of the LP Gas Terminals built in Australia and numerous storage facilities around the country.

For major turn-key gas or ammonia storage installation type projects a complete service is available that includes detail engineering design, fabrication of tanks and ancillary equipment, supply of all valves and instrumentation, the supervision of equipment installation and final testing and commissioning of the plan

The complete range of LPG underground tanks are available in standard size ranges from 17 kilolitre water capacity to 57 kilolitre water capacity with other sizes available on request. The company undertakes the entire design and manufacturing process including the manufacture of tank turret assemblies and submersible pump sets.

Pressure Vessels & Special Application Vessels

The full range of small to medium sized pressure vessels typically used in refinery operations including specialised chemical storage or processing plant applications is available. In addition the Fabricated Products division specialises in the manufacture of IMO 5 shipping containers for LP Gas, CO2, LNG and containers for products such as ethyl mercaptan, dimethyl ether and methanol.

Rail wagon tankers for all pressurised product services are also available. The full range of carbon steels, quenched and tempered steels and stainless steel materials are catered for. Size range is typically up to 3 metres in diameter by 20 metres long in thicknesses from 8mm through to 50mm. The business excels in projects involving serially produced vessels such as Chlorine Drums, Ammonia Nurse Tanks for the fertilizer industry and static storage vessels for automotive fuel gas applications.

High Pressure Cylinders

The company has completed the prototype design and testing of a new range of 499 litre water capacity high pressure cylinders. This design was developed specifically to cater for the high pressure Refrigerant Gas industries.

Production has commenced and the intention is to develop this design further in order to cater for other high pressure or dangerous goods applications.

Cryogenic Equipment

In May 2005, CEM was appointed the Australian and New Zealand Agent and Distributor for Chart Asia Inc., the regional subsidiary of US headquartered Chart Industries Inc. CEM's representation incorporates products manufactured by the Distribution and Storage Group of Chart and Chart's NexGen LNG fuelling products.

Chart Industries is a leading global supplier of standard and custom-engineered products and systems serving a wide variety of low temperature and cryogenic applications. Chart has domestic operations located in eight US states and an international presence in Australia, China, the Czech Republic, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Chart Industries manufactures a broad line of cryogenic products for the purification, liquefaction, distribution, storage and application of gases such as helium, nitrogen, argon, oxygen, carbon dioxide, natural gas and other hydrocarbons for final use in a multitude of industrial, commercial and scientific applications.

Typical application areas include:

  • Cryogenic Distribution and Storage Products
  • Bulk storage tanks – vertical and horizontal.
  • Bulk transport vessels – finished by CEM in accordance with local transport regulations.
  • Vacuum insulated pipe – nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
  • Portable liquid cylinders.
  • Helium dewars.

In Australia and New Zealand CEM provide Chart’s complete range of portable cryogenic liquid cylinders including the MVE Cryo-Cyl, Dura-Cyl, Mega-Cyl, Laser-Cyl and Perma-Cyl series designed for transportation and storage of liquid argon, nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide.

Cylinders specifically designed for liquid carbon dioxide used in the beverage applications such as restaurants, pubs, bars and mircobreweries are also offered including the Carbo-Mite, Carbo-Charger, Carbo-Mizer and Carbo-Max models.

NexGen LNG Fuelling

Provides all of the equipment required for a LNG-fuelled fleet, from the liquefier to the on-board fuelling system. Over 95% of parts have been designed and developed by Chart ensuring that they will all work together.

NexGen integrates all aspects of the infrastructure for LNG-fuelled fleets ensuring that a customer's LNG vehicles will be ready to roll when needed.

LNG Equipment

Through its agreement with Chart Industries for Cryogenic Storage and Distribution Products CEM International brings a complete range of locally approved products to the Australian and New Zealand LNG storage and distribution market.

These products include:

  • LNG Road and Rail Tankers in all configurations fully conforming with Australian road regulations and including locally sourced running gear and operating equipment
  • LNG vehicle fuel tanks and fuel tank systems
  • LNG Bulk Storage Tanks
  • LNG ISO Containers
  • LNG Fuel Stations
  • LNG Vacuum Insulated Piping and Valves
